Wouxun KG-UV2Q experience

Dual segment transmission and seven segment reception to meet higher power requirements— Wouxun UV2Q handheld walkie talkie

With the popularization of walkie talkies, more and more friends are beginning to come into contact with and use them, especially amateur radio enthusiasts who hope that their walkie talkies can be connected far enough and have clear sound quality. This places higher demands on power, as most walkie talkies on the market currently have a transmission power of 5 watts. However, in harsh environments or emergency situations, higher power can bring longer communication distances.

Many friends are very familiar with Wouxun’s walkie talkies, and the old brand of Wouxun has always had a good reputation among amateur radio enthusiasts, especially Wouxun’s 9Dplus, which has been used by many radio enthusiasts for a long time like a “nail household”. However, with the increasing demand for high-power handheld radios from some users, Wouxun has also launched a high-power handheld walkie talkie: Wouxun UV2Q. The operating interface of this machine is basically the same as that of the 9DP, but the difference is that the peak transmission power of the walkie talkie can reach around 10W at high power, which can be considered as sufficient transmission power for a handheld device.

The front of this Wouxun UV2Q, like the 9DP, features a color display screen that can display Chinese, which is very user-friendly for many beginners. Apart from the slanted layout of the front buttons, I feel that everything else is no different from the 9DP.

The top of Wouxun UV2Q is the same as 9DP, with volume knob, stepper frequency knob, LED lighting, antenna base, and two status indicator lights at the top.

The left side is the main button concentration area. When holding the machine with the left hand, you can press the PTT key with your thumb to launch, and when holding the machine with the right hand, you can use your index finger to operate the launch. In addition to the largest PTT launch button, there are also three function buttons that can customize the corresponding long press/short press functions.

There are no buttons on the right side of the walkie talkie, only a standard K-head interface that can be connected to the K-head earphone or frequency writing cable for frequency writing operations on the walkie talkie.

The back battery is the same model as the 9DP, and the battery in the picture has not yet been installed with a back clip. There is a charging contact below the battery, which can be inserted into the charging device to charge the battery. However, nowadays, it is more popular to use USB interfaces such as Type-C or Micro USB interfaces to charge the battery. We also hope that manufacturers can develop batteries that support USB interface charging in the future, so that when we use them outdoors, charging the walkie talkie will be more convenient.

The battery compartment has the same layout as the 9DP, and the approval code for this walkie talkie is CMIIT ID: 2015FP2952. It is possible to apply for a radio license from the local amateur radio management department. Some friends may wonder if this approval code will expire after 5 years. Generally, before the expiration of the approval code, legitimate manufacturers will apply to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to renew the approval of related products, so for Wouxun, there is no need to worry. There are still many intercom products from Bazhong Island on the market with old approval codes, and now they can also be verified and licensed because the manufacturer has already renewed the equipment approval with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

In terms of battery, a 7.4V lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 3200mAh is commonly known as a thick battery. Compared to a 2000mAh thin battery, it can provide a good range experience.

This Handheld Radio comes with a charging base, which can be plugged in to charge the machine, or a separate battery can be plugged in for charging. It would be more convenient if USB charging was available.

The top antenna base of Wouxn UV2Q adopts an SMA base, which is different from some interfaces of other domestic brands. When choosing an antenna, everyone should pay attention to the antenna interface. Wouxun’s workmanship quality is still worth trusting, and the antenna base is also very solid.

The original antenna supports V-band and U-band transceiver, with operating frequencies of 136-174MHz and 400-520MHz. The actual measurement shows a good transmission and reception experience in both frequency bands. If you are looking for better transmission and reception results, you can find an IOO teacher to customize a fixed frequency manual antenna.

This Wouxun UV2Q walkie talkie weighs 278 grams without an antenna, paired with a 3200mAh thick battery, and its weight is still within the acceptable range.

If paired with an antenna, the weight is 297.7 grams. If paired with a back clip, the weight is 300 grams, making it very sturdy to hold and easy to smash walnuts and other items.

The antenna supports the installation of different color rings, with the original color being red. If you have other color rings in your hand, you can replace them with your favorite color ring. The function of the color ring is to distinguish between different color rings if you have multiple identical radios.

Equipped with a fluorescent green color ring, I feel the effect is quite good.

Through power meter measurement, the high power output in the V segment can reach 9W+, the medium power transmission power is about 5W, and the low power V segment is about 1.7W. The output of the U segment is slightly lower by about 1W than that of the V segment in high, medium, and low gears.

Overall, the functions of this Wouxun UV2Q walkie talkie are the same as those of the 9DP, with the golden signboard of seven segment reception, V/U dual segment transmission, and cross segment transfer function being very practical. In terms of reception, in addition to the radio 76-108MHZ (FM), it also supports 108-136MHZ (aviation reception), 136-180MHZ (FM), 230-250MHZ (FM), 350-400MHZ (FM), 400-520MHZ (FM), and 700-985MHZ (FM). The biggest difference from the 9DP is the improvement in power. If you pursue higher transmission power, stable circuits, and sensitive reception effects, then I think this Wouxun UV2Q is still a very good amateur handheld walkie talkie.
